Cheese Danish

Ingredients

Servings:
2Ounces Cream Cheese, fat free
3Tbsp Siggi’s Honey Yogurt (or other high-protein, low sugar, non-plain yogurt)
1Tbsp Cane Sugar
.25Tsp Vanilla Extract
1Tsp All-purpose Flour
1Tube Croissant Dough (or frozen puff pastry thawed)
.25Cup Almond, slivered

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375º.

Unwrap croissant dough from container and slice into eight discs.  Flatten each disc into approximately 3” circle leaving a raised edge around the border (to contain the filling).  Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.  If using puff pastry, cut into eight squares and fold up edges to create an indentation.

Mix together cream cheese, yogurt, flour, sugar, and vanilla.  Divide mixture and fill each dough disc.  Spread mixture to fill each disc and smooth the tops like you’re frosting a cake.

Whisk together one egg and one tbsp water to make an egg wash.  Brush sides of danish dough.

Sprinkle slivered almonds around edge of each danish (where you applied the egg wash).

OPTIONAL:

  • Top with your favorite fresh fruit like blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, etc.
  • Sprinkle chia seeds, hemp seeds (husked and ground), or flax seeds (ground) on top of filling (with or without fruit).

Bake for 10-15 minutes until edges are golden brown.  Remove from oven and serve warm.

NOTE: nutritional information does not include fruit or seed toppings.
