Challah bread

Ingredients

Servings:
1Cup Water, room temperature
.25Cup Unsalted Butter, room temp, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1Large Egg, room temperature
1Tsp Kosher Salt
2Tbsp Sugar
2Cup Bread flour
1.5Tsp yeast, active dry, instant or bread machine

Instructions

Place all ingredients, in the order listed, in the bread pan fitted with the kneading paddle. Secure the bread pan in the Bread Maker. Press the menu button to select the Sweet program. Press 1 lb loaf size and dark crust color buttons. Press Start/Stop to mix, knead, rise, and bake. If desired, when paddle signal sounds remove dough and kneading paddle, reshape dough and replace in bread pan. When the cycle is complete, remove the bread pan from the machine and transfer bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Recipe adjusted for 6,500′ altitude. Add an additional 1/4 tbsp sugar at lower elevations.
